Visual Intimacy

Contact:
We've arrived.
Not that we didn't have anything to live for
Prior to this. But people tend to
Remember when they're struck by lightning.

I looked up to see you
Smiling. not at me.
I will never forget your autumn
Brow tilted in amusement.
The friend with you must be very funny.
Or you must be very gracious.

Glance my way. Tempt ye the
Fates with this subtle mistake
And see if we can't escape the
Gravity of two souls built as a pair.
Slowing,
Slowing,
slowing.
Surprised fear twists my lips into
an awkward smile and turns my head
at it's neck to look down at the table.
Your gaze has more power than I'd imagined.

I look to you again.
You're still smiling.
I don't know where this is headed.
One thing I do know: we've made
Contact: we've arrived.
And it's not that we didn't have anything to
Live for prior to this.
It's just that I'll never forget how I was struck by lightning.

  1. Whoa.

Things that make me feel impressed make me say, 'Whoa.'
