I've missed you since the day you wouldn't love me,
shadows forming gently 'round my eyes.
I've drowned in waves of sorrow at this prospect
which consolation failed to rectify.
I've missed you since the day I couldn't love you,
when passion heeded wisdom's calls to hide.
Discov'ring that you never could have loved me,
constrained my aching heartbeat to subside.

You have a way with words. Mad props. :)
ReplyDeleteNice. I like how the line lengths slow you down as you read it. Or at least me. One thing though (and it's not that important): I would change "ne'er" back to "never" because the meter requires that you read it as two syllables, not one. (Excellent work with "discov'ring.")
ReplyDeleteYou could totally make it in Nashville.
